System Requirements and Browser Configuration

In order to use the online form, you must have the following software installed on your computer:

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x or Netscape Navigator 4.7x
Acrobat Reader 5.x

Other browsers or Acrobat Reader versions are not supported. If you are using the specified browser and Reader versions, and you are still having trouble, you might need to change a configuration in your browser.

Review the following table, and confirm that your browser is configured as described.

Configuring Internet Explorer

The following sections describe how to configure Internet Explorer so that you can use the online form:

Enable JavaScript

To enable JavaScript:

On the Internet Explorer menu bar, choose Edit > Preferences.
The Internet Options dialog box opens.

Click the Security tab.
Select the Internet zone.
Click Custom Level...
The Security Settings dialog box opens.
Scroll down to the Scripting section and under Active Scripting, click Enable.
Click OK to save your changes.

Launch Acrobat Reader as a Plug-in

By default, Internet Explorer launches Acrobat Reader as a plug-in. If you have changed the default behavior so that IE launches Acrobat Reader as a helper application, do the following:

Close Internet Explorer.
Start Acrobat Reader.
In the Reader menu bar, choose Edit > Preferences > General.
The Preferences dialog box opens.
In the Preferences dialog, choose Options.
In the Web Browser Options section, check Display PDF in Browser.
Click OK to save your changes.
Close Acrobat Reader.

Enable Meta-Refresh

To enable meta-refresh:

On the Internet Explorer menu bar, choose Edit > Preferences.
The Internet Options dialog box opens.

Click the Security tab.
Select the Internet zone.
Click Custom Level...
The Security Settings dialog box opens.
Scroll down to the Miscellaneous section and under Allow META REFRESH, click Enable.
Click OK to save your changes.

Re-use Browser Window

To re-use browser windows :

On the Internet Explorer menu bar, choose Edit > Preferences.
The Internet Options dialog box opens.

Click the Advanced tab.
Scroll down to the Browsing section, and check Reuse windows for launching shortcuts.
Click OK to save your changes.

Configuring Netscape Navigator

The following sections describe how to configure Netscape Navigator so that you can use the online form:

Enable JavaScript

To enable JavaScript:

On the Netscape Navigator menu bar, choose Edit > Preferences.
The Preferences dialog box opens.

In the left-hand navigation pane, click Advanced.
Check Enable JavaScript.
Click OK to save your changes.

Launch Acrobat Reader as a Plug-in

By default, Netscape Navigator launches Acrobat Reader as a plug-in. If you have changed the default behavior so that IE launches Acrobat Reader as a helper application, do the following:

Close Netscape Navigator.
Start Acrobat Reader.
In the Reader menu bar, choose Edit > Preferences > General.
The Preferences dialog box opens.
In the Preferences dialog, choose Options.
In the Web Browser Options section, check Display PDF in Browser.
Click OK to save your changes.
Close Acrobat Reader.

Specify FDF File Type

If you are prompted to configure your browser to allow file downloading, you need to follow these instructions.

On the Netscape Navigator menu bar, choose Edit > Preferences.
The Preferences dialog box opens.

In the left-hand navigation pane, expand the Navigator item.
Click Applications.
The applications and their descriptions are displayed in the right side of the Preferences dialog.
In the right pane, select each of the "Acrobat File" entries one-by-one. Confirm that at least one entry has the following properties (look in the "File type details" box):
Extension: FDF Mime type: application
Handled by: Program.
If at least one entry matches, click Cancel; otherwise proceed to the next step.
Click New Type... (or New on Mac OS and Unix systems).
The New Type dialog box opens.
Complete the fields as follows:
Type a description of the type of files the application works with; enter Acrobat File.
Type the file extension (suffix) used by this file type FDF. (The file path to the program that can handle this file type might automatically appear in the field labeled "Application to use:". If not, you should perform the following step.)
Type the MIME type application/vnd.fdf.
d.On Windows, click Browse... and select an application that handles files of this type. (On Mac OS and Unix, click Application, then click Choose.)
You can specify how Navigator should handle downloaded files.
Select Acrobat file type from the list and click Edit.
Choose a "Handled By" option to have downloaded files opened in a Navigator window or opened in a application that you specify.
Click "Browse..." (Choose on Mac OS) to specify the application.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT check "Ask me before opening downloaded files of this type". This causes Navigator and Acrobat to prompt you about displaying the file in the browser.
Click "OK".
Press "OK" on the Preferences dialog to save your changes.
